No posts due to Hurricane María

Hey Guys.

Ryder here. I'm writing this to let you guys know that I won't be able to post for a while because of Hurricane María. I know I said this with Hurricane Irma but this time is different. It's already known that hurricane Maria will hit where I live. Thank you all for reading my content. I really appreciate it. Those of you who are also going to get hit by Maria, please be safe. Don't leave your homes or shelter until it's 100% safe to do so. Please remember to stay healthy and be with your loved ones. I don't know when or if I will be able to make another post. So for now, take care and always smile.

Chinese Hatsune Miku?

Hey guys!
So recently I found on YouTube called “花花世界“ (Flower World) by 洛天依 (Luo Tian Yi). Now, the video is cute and all, but I couldn’t help see the similarities she has with Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid. She’s a synthesized voice like Miku (of course, she's a Vocaloid as well so it's a given) and the way she’s drawn (other than the hair) is strikingly similar to Miku.
Vocaloid has been around for 10 years now and there’s no questioning how popular it has become throughout the years. For many people, it’s their main way of listening to Japanese music. However, I’ve recently come across a video by a Hatsune Miku lookalike by the name of Luo Tian Yi. Now, Luo Tian Yi is also a Vocaloid, but she’s Chinese. She’s also the main Chinese Vocaloid so that might be the reason she and Hatsune Miku look alike. I’ve heard many of her songs such as “Story in the Wind”, “ 花花世界”, and “Alley”.

Personally, I am actually happy that they have Chinese Vocaloid because it makes the Vocaloid fan-community bigger and you have more variety of languages while listening to them. I hope you guys check her songs out because they are really good and catchy, as well as interesting (of course all Vocaloid songs are).

Million Yen Women (Review)

Million Yen Women is a Japanese Series on Netflix released in 2017. All of the episodes were released on the same day (August 15). It’s about an unpopular artist by the name of Shin Michima who lives with 5 women who give him a million yen as rent. There are certain rules in the household such as no questions, no going to the rooms, and they must eat together at the table. However, the mystery isn’t in the background stories of the females, but who was the person who invited the 5 females to the author’s home. As the story progresses, many events occur that keep you on the edge of your seat.

Honestly, I didn’t like the series at first since the first episode wasn’t really interesting until the very end of it when the author admits that the reason why he doesn’t kill anyone in his novels is because his own father is on death row. After three or four episodes in, I finally realized I was hooked into the series. Although it was only 12 episodes long, each one reels you in further and further into the plot. One thing I didn’t like was the over dramatization in the rival author’s side and how childish some of the characters seemed along the way. Another thing is the fact that you kinda get lost in a few parts because so much stuff is happening all at once; however, the ending was satisfying enough since the series was more in a realistic aspect and not a fictional/ fantasy one.

I give this series 3 pairs of paws because of the complicated story line and mysterious/ suspenseful atmosphere along with the realistic plot that it has. 🐾🐾🐾 I still felt like it was a bit bland in a few occasions, but I think this series is good to watch.

I'm back! Everyone in my family is fine after Irma (thank God). Thank you guys for reading this post! I hope you guys enjoyed it. Take care! Nya! :3

No posts for a while

Hey guys,

This week will be a bit different. I won't be posting any reviews, comparisons , etc. because right now we're preparing for Hurricane Irma. I live in the area where it's already in Hurricane Warning, so I won't be posting anything at all for this week and probably next week. I hope the worst case scenario doesn't happen, but if it does, please know that I had a blast writing this blog for the short amount of time that it was up. Thank you all for reading this and following me on my social media pages. I really appreciate it. If the worst case scenario doesn't happen, I will keep on posting this page as soon as possible.

Either way, thank you all and please take care. Nya!

Death Note Movie: Why did I watch this?

Hey, guys.
So as you all know, Netflix finally released the new movie for Death Note. It wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be...but I still couldn't watch the entire thing because it was cringe fest every second of the way. Why did I watch it? Well, it's because I wanted to see how bad it was (since a lot of live action movies are horrible) and since Halloween is coming soon, I wanted to get into the Halloween Spirit. Starting with this movie, however, wasn't the best idea.
One thing was the fact that Nat Wolff (don't get me wrong I love his other works) was horrible in portraying the role of Light. In fact, instead of being the creepy, psychotic Light everyone loves, he was more of a comedian with how much he screamed like a girl. I tried really hard in thinking this movie was set in another universe..but even doing that didn't get me to watch the entire thing. I basically only watched the first 30 minutes and then I skipped to the last 5-10 minutes of the movie. The only thing that they might've gotten right was the gory deaths the characters had to face...but that was pretty much it.
If you want to see Death Note as the master piece that it's supposed to be, please watch the anime or read the manga. I really wouldn't recommend anyone watching this.
I will give this movie two pairs of paws because they at least tried (even though they failed). Plus the voice actor of Ryuk wasn't really that bad (in fact, I can say he seemed more like the highlight of the movie). 🐾🐾

Black Butler and Twin Spirit Detectives (Japanese VS Chinese Anime)

For years, anime has been a popular way of entertainment. While Japan is known for many things (including anime), Chinese anime is also getting noticed by many people. Now, what are differences and similarities (if any) on both sides? To answer this question, I'm going to compare and contrast between two of my favorite anime: Black Butler and Twin Spirit Detectives. Before I do that, I'll talk briefly about both animes.

Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) was originally released in 2008 and became a major hit globally. With 2 seasons, 3 OVAs, over 100 chapters in the manga, and 4-5 musicals, it's safe to say that Black Butler is pretty well known in the anime community. Black Butler takes place in 19th Century England. It's about a 13-year-old who makes a contract with a demon in order to seek revenge on those who ruined his life when he was younger.

Twin Spirit Detectives (Shuangsheng Lingtan) was released in late 2016 and the first season (still unknown whether the second season will be released) ended in early 2017. It's about a pair of twins who try to investigate supernatural cases. Along the way, some events happen which cause the two twins to slowly go their separate ways.

How are they different?

  1. First of all, the obvious: the language. (Japanese and Chinese)
  2. My first impression of them:
  • Black Butler- What's going on? The characters are really attractive...
  • Twin Spirit Detectives: The language makes me feel uncomfortable, but I'll keep watching since it seems interesting. (This was the first Chinese anime that I've watched.)
      3. The quality of animation

Ironically, they don't have many differences other than the obvious such as the language and the setting.

How are they similar?
  1. Intended audience (pg-13 or more mature audiences)
  2. Atmosphere (Dark and mysterious, yet comical in some scenes)
  3. Two main characters
  4. Use of supernatural/spiritual beings
  5. Send you on an emotional roller coaster
  6. Both I would highly recommend
Please check them out they are amazing anime series. I love them so much. I hope this helps if you want to know the differences between a Japanese and Chinese anime. Please let me know if you guys want me to write something like this in the future.

Take care!

Why Did I start this Blog?

Hey Guys,

So there's a question that some people have been messaging me: "why did you start this blog?" or "what got you into making this blog?" So I decided to make this post answering those questions.
Some of you guys know that I'm an English Major and I've always loved to write- whether it be a story, poem, song, etc. On my second year of college, I worked for Her Campus as a contributor and social media manager, and I fell in love with writing blogs and posting things on social media.

When I was 13, I started to watch anime (though technically it was before since I used to watch Hamtaro and Pokemon as a kid, but I didn't exactly know what was anime back then). Soon I became a huge weeaboo to the point where I thought things like "Japan is the best" or I would call everything Asian "Japanese" even when it clearly wasn't. Fast-forward to when I was about 17, and I started to listen to K-Pop, but I used to listen to only one group for years. Then in my second year in college, I started taking Chinese classes in order to learn the language.
To be honest, at first, I only took it in order to understand a bit of Kanji, but as I progressed with the classes, I started to fall in love with the Chinese culture. Soon I started to watch Chinese anime- which ironically made me look up more dramas in different languages (Korean and Japanese as well). I also found many other groups in Japanese, Mandarin, and Korean which expanded my likings and knowledge about all three languages and cultures.

Now: why did I make this blog?
I made it simply because I enjoy all three cultures that I wanted to share my opinions and experiences with people who, I hope, feel the same way. I also hope that this will help expand people's likings with dramas, mangas, and music and will help inform them a bit more about the culture. As to why my name is "Ryder - The Kitten Who Eats Ramen"? Well...that's for another post.

I hope you guys enjoyed this. Please let me know if there's something else you'd like to know about me or about what I post- or if you want me to write about a specific anime, manga, drama, etc; don't be afraid to message me or comment below.

See you guys later!
